Editorial Staff
Editor-in-Chief: Runs the paper by overseeing the
editorial aspects of the magazine, publication process, and business. Runs
meetings and manages the account. Ensures that all articles published online
are saved in the Google Drive. Meets with editors to review and curate stories,
as well as makes final edits and editorial decisions. Oversees the entire
editing process. Is available for questions at every point in the publication
process. Reviews and approves all postings and maintains the online schedule.
May add to, update, and maintain staff handbook. Receives all submissions and
ensures that the appropriate editors get the submissions. Makes final content
editing decisions. Meets regularly with editorial staff. Oversees the
publication schedule with website editor.
Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief: Assists
Editor-in-Chief in all things. Serves as secretary for The Rambler.
Serves as acting Editor-in-Chief if necessary. Answers questions for the
Editor-in-Chief if necessary. Attends meetings with the Editor-in-Chief. Sends
reminders of submission deadlines and fields problems with the submission
calendar if necessary.
Content Editors: Edits
articles and works directly with a writer if necessary to communicate about
edits. It is merely a curtesy for writers to be notified of minor changes
whereas major changes require a meeting, but it is advised to do so. The
content editors ensure at the beginning of each semester with the
Editor-in-Chief the list of editing standard. Fact checks articles as
necessary. Submits all edits directly to the submission folder of the shared
drive. Meets regularly with the rest of the editorial staff.
Website Editor: Keeps website
up and running. Runs electronic posts. Keeps track of website login-in
information and all other account information. Keeps log of all electronic
publications for the review of the Editor-in-Chief. Meets regularly with the
Social Media Editor to ensure that all posts are advertised. Posts articles according
to the publication calendar. Has assistants if necessary. Meets regularly with
the rest of the editorial staff.
Social Media Editor: Manages
all social media accounts and any other web related accounts. Takes pictures at
meetings and of other parts of the publication process to maintain presence on
social media. Posts at the beginning of, and throughout, the semester about how
to get involved. Once articles are posted on the website, the Social Media
Editor is required to advertise them. Advertises submission deadlines and
publication dates for every issue. Has assistants as necessary. Works closely
with the Website Editor to ensure continuous and proper advertising. Posts
electronic versions of all announcements made by The Rambler. Keeps log
of all posts for the review of the Editor-in-Chief. Meets regularly with the
rest of the editorial staff.
Non-Editorial Staff
Assistant Social Media Editor(s): Assists the Social
Media Editor as necessary.
Assistant Website Editor(s): Assists the Website
Editor as necessary.
Columnist: Writes a regular
column according to the schedule agreed upon with the Editor-in-Chief, with
either a consistent topic or theme. All submissions go to the Editor-in-Chief
who then ensures that the articles go to the appropriate editors. Attends
all-staff meetings.
Staff Writers: Contributes articles, creative writing pieces, poems, pictures, et cetera according to the schedule agreed upon with the Editor-in-Chief. All articles are submitted directly to the Editor-in-Chief who then ensures that the articles go to the appropriate editors. Attends all-staff meetings.
